Dear
Educator, Thank you for your interest in my art books series for children,
How Artists See. Since the first four volumes were published in 1996, I've
heard from many teachers how useful the series has been in the classroom. Because
each volume looks at a broad subject that all people experience in their daily
lives, the books can be woven quite easily into many curricular areas:
ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS/WRITING: All titles SCIENCE:
How Artists See Animals, How Artists See the Weather, How Artists
See the Elements SOCIAL STUDIES: How Artists See People,
How Artists See Families, How Artists See Cities, How Artists
See Work, How Artists See America, How Artists See Heroes HEALTH/PHYSICAL
EDUCATION: How Artists See Play, How Artists See Feelings
THE ARTS: How Artists See Artists It is my hope that as
children read the How Artists See books they will experience a sense of
wonder at the diversity of artistic styles and the uniqueness of every artist's
vision. In doing this, children will begin to see ordinary things in extraordinary
ways, and will increase their perception of and ability to describe the world
around them. To help teachers incorporate How Artists See into
the curriculum, I've written a series teachers' guide with activities designed
to extend the learning "moments" in the books, and to encourage children to explore
both interdisciplinary and artistic concepts in greater depth. Click on the link
