Dear Educator,
Getting students to LOVE and APPRECIATE art is easy when I bring my series, How Artists See, into your classroom. I offer a variety of workshops to help your students see the world through artists' eyes:Theme/Curriculum Session- The twelve volumes in the How Artist See series easily connect to many common curricular themes: View a list of How Artists See titles
Using one or more volumes, students will experience a curricular theme of study from an artistic perspective as they discover how artists throughout time have explored a particular subject.
Art Appreciation Session- Think art history and art appreciation is dull stuff? Not in this workshop where students explore how sixteen different artists depict a common subject and in the process learn about artistic style, enrich their visual/perceptive abilities, and increase their appreciation of art.
How Artists See...How Students Write!- Cultivate creative writers in this workshop that uses art as the engine to fire students' imaginations...and improve their writing skills.
Hands-on Art- Choose a volume from How Artists See and let the learning and creating begin. For example, after studying How Artists See the Weather, students will sketch their own weather pictures and conclude by using those designs in a block printing project-a valuable way to learn that there is more than one way of seeing and creating art.
How Artists See from A to Z- How does a children's book get published? Using humorous anecdotes, sample manuscripts, and proof pages, Colleen will take students through her experiences in the book publishing process, from concept to completion, with plenty of Q&A along the way.
In addition to the above workshops, Colleen would be happy to tailor a workshop appropriate to your curriculum.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS
Using the entire How Artists See series, Colleen will introduce teachers to activities, strategies, and techniques for using theme-based art to promote critical thinking and discussion, creative writing, and visual literacy.
